The Spiritual Gift of Leadership

The Spiritual Gift of Leadership

Leadership is a spiritual gift and supernatural ability to cast vision and motivate people towards a common goal.

Leadership is more than a title; it is a spiritual gift. People who are gifted in leadership have a magnetic ability to draw people together around a common cause and impart confidence to journey together towards that goal.

Example from the Scripture:

Leadership is a theme that runs throughout the entire story of the Bible. Here is a small list of leaders that are found in both the Old and New Testament: Abraham (Genesis 17:5), Joseph (Genesis 39:5), Moses (Exodus 3:10-11), Joshua (Joshua 1:1), David (1 Samuel 16) the 12 apostles (Mark 3:14) Timothy (2 Timothy 4:2) Titus (Titus 1:5).

When this gift is absent:

When the gift of Leadership is absent, church politics and bickering are sure to take over. Without a clear leader, the loudest or most extroverted person will typically steer the direction of the church whether or not they are spiritually qualified.

When this gift is present:

When a strong gift of Leadership is present in people will rally together to accomplish great things and move forward with the confidence that God is involved in what they are seeking to do.

In the Life of Jesus:

Jesus models what it is to be a true leader in the Kingdom of God. He gathered a group of men around him, trained them to be like them, and laid down his life for their sake, and his cause continues to expand (Acts 5:3032).

Do you have the spiritual gift of Leadership?

  • Do people rally around a vision you cast and trust your character?
  • Are you able to effectively communicate a vision that God has placed in your heart to bring about godly change?
  • Has God called you to bring together a team of people for a common goal? Practical ways to implement and develop the spiritual gift of the Leadership:
  • Speak to your pastor about leadership training and opportunities.
  • Spend time praying that God would strengthen this gifting.
