Definition:

The Word of Knowledge is a spiritual gift and supernatural ability to know a situation or circumstances that would otherwise be unknowable through human reason or intellect.

Description:

The Holy Spirit uses the Word of Knowledge to touch people’s hearts in a profoundly personal way creating a profound sense of awe that God knows the specific details of their life.

Example from the Scripture:

In Acts 9:10-12, Ananias was given a Word of Knowledge on where to meet and pray for Saul of Tarsus. We also see the Word of Knowledge in the Old Testament in the book of 1 Kings 14:16.

When this gift is present:

When the Word of Knowledge is active in a local church, people are touched in very personal ways. As God reveals secrets in people’s hearts, there is no doubt that the Holy Spirit is active in the Church.

When this gift is absent:

When the Word of Knowledge is absent, people are prayed for and ministered in generalities rather than specific information that only God knows.

In the Life of Jesus:

Jesus demonstrated the Word of Knowledge when he told Nathaniel that he had seen him under the fig tree (John 1:48) and when he knew the thoughts of the crowd he was speaking to (Matthew 12:25) Luke 5:22-23).
